During the Fall 2020 semester, I furthered my involvement with Community-Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR, formerly the Center for Community Service) and the Service-Learning program in my role as a Service-Learning Teaching Assistant (S-LTA). My role is to match students who have opted into a Service-Learning section of FSEM1000: Connections and Decisions to a Community Partner organization for their weekly community service commitment. I use an Asset-Based approach when working with our amazing Community Partners, who were unfortunately going through a very stressful time during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they needed to shift their service to fully online. I introduce Service-Learning in class, along with facilitating weekly discussions about how students think their S-L experience is going. I also perform administrative tasks such as ensuring that students track their S-L hours, managing the feedback process, and helping the students create our S-L Virtual Artifact that we submited to the S-L Virtual Expo (12/22/20)!
